The dog food contest where one lucky winner can get 1,000 pounds of Black Gold dog food just rolled out for 2015. This is what happened with the 2014 mountain of food:
Penny Hamilton in Colorado won first prize. Her submission is of her dog Prince coming out of a tunnel they built onto their elevated deck.
When asked what she thinks about pet doors she said, “Our dog and we love the freedom that our pet doors gives. We live in Colorado high mountains so we made an ‘airlock’ with two pet doors. Our smart dog, rescued from a high kill area, just bounds through ‘his’ pet doors to our elevated deck with is elevated to keep him safe from mountain lions, bears and other mountain critters.”
1,000 pounds of food would be a lot for Prince, and Penny donated her prize to a local animal shelter and dog food bank. We hope the food and her generosity will help many hungry dogs.
Take the opportunity to enter the contest – maybe the Black Gold truck will be coming to you later this year!
Last year’s dog food contest where a lucky winner received 1,000 pounds of Black Gold dog food was a success. We here at PlexiDor pet doors loved seeing everyone’s photos, and we have decided to do it again.
To enter, all you have to do is visit this link, answer an easy question, and share a photo of your dog using a dog door. It can be any dog door, it doesn’t have to be a PlexiDor, and if you don’t have a dog door it’s okay to be creative.
Naturally, if you were to win and don’t want the food for yourself you can donate it to a shelter or rescue. Two runners up will win Dunkin Donuts gift cards.
We got many wonderful entries to the 2014 PlexiDor dog food contest, and three winners have been drawn from the submissions. Don’t lose hope if you didn’t win this time – the contest is likely to return in 2015.
Third Prize of a $25 Dunkin Donuts gift card goes to: Tiffany Hughes in Arizona.
When asked what she thinks about the PlexiDor she answered, “The PlexiDoor sounds incredible and we would love to have one! With the varying temperatures in Southern AZ (very hot during the day and cool at night), it would be great to have a doggie door that helps regulate the internal temperature of the house without letting the outside temperature interfere. Our last plastic doggie door flap at our old house completely broke and though we tried taping it back on with duck tape and plastic tape, it was a futile battle and it ended up as a gaping hole.”
Second Prize of a $50 Dunkin Donuts gift card goes to: Sean Selman in Texas.
When asked what he thinks of the PlexiDor, Sean answered, “Professionally engineered. Quality materials. Quiet. Energy-efficient. Completely secure. Long-lasting. Safe. Easy for pets to use. COOL FACT: Plexidor doggie doors are in Marmaduke. The Plexidor dog door is the door featured in Marmaduke when he moves to California. Last but not least! They are manufactured in the U.S.A.!!!”
First Prize of 1,000 pounds of Black Gold Dog Food with delivery goes to: Penny Hamilton in Colorado.
When asked what she thinks about the PlexiDor, Penny says, “Our dog and we love the freedom that our pet doors gives. We live in Colorado high mountains so we made an ‘airlock’ with two pet doors. Our smart dog, rescued from a high kill area, just bounds through ‘his’ pet doors to our elevated deck with is elevated to keep him safe from mountain lions, bears and other mountain critters.”
Congratulations to all the winners, and a warm Thank You to everyone who participated!
The October/November issue of Window and Door Magazine features the PlexiDor Pet door, and mentions that these dog doors and cat doors are shatter resistant with a material specially formulated to resist damage from sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high impact.
The high impact point is particularly important for households with large and giant dogs. There is a lot of energy in a running dog in a hurry to reach the outside, and giant breeds often break other types of doors.
The article also mentions that each panel is lined with industrial grade weather seal for maximum energy efficiency, and that the PlexiDor dog doors and cat doors are created with security in mind.
PlexiDor Pet Doors have been featured in the Florida Business Observer, in an article focusing on business growth and how Joseph Ambrose – company owner – pulled the pet door company out of the recession into a stage of growth.
The article mentions, “The today at PlexiDor is wrapped around more than 50 lines and varieties of saloon-style, shatter resistant, two-way pet doors that go on the bottom of people doors. Prices range from $163 to $1,249 a door. The products are chew-proof and made with hardened acrylic panels. The goal is to make something secure, sturdy and energy efficient.”

Modern Dog Magazine is a fabulous lifestyle magazine for modern dogs and their companions, and we are thrilled to be listed as a “Fave Find.”
MDM writes, “If you’re in the market for a pet door, we’ve found the perfect one for you.” and follows with “Not only will your pet have the freedom to go in and out as he pleases, you’ll save money on your energy bill too. Win-win!”
PlexiDor dog doors were recently featured in the Edmonton Journal. The paper wrote, “Doggie doors eliminate middle man. Let your pet hit the yard without the need for a human gatekeeper.”
The feature goes on with asking, “How many times a day would you use the door if your bathroom wasn’t inside the house? Now add the times when you leave to get some fresh air, a change of scenery, or to greet someone.”
This is exactly what the PlexiDor is about – freedom for the pets to go outside or come in without having to wait for the humans to get home from work or out of bed, and freedom from worry for pet lovers.
The PlexiDor Pet Door was recently featured in Petsguide Magazine under the headline “Cool Pet Stuff – Things You didn’t Know You Wanted to Know.” This is an online guide for pet lovers in orange county and long beach.
The feature describes key features of the PlexiDor pet door and mentions, “Their product development team has worked closely with pet owners around the world to design and engineer a strong, safe, energy efficient and dependable product designed for years of trouble free use.” This is a very important point, because the door has to work as well in a hot desert climate as in the frigid air of Canada or Scandinavia.

The Calgary Sun recently ran a feature on PlexiDor Pet Doors, and readers of the May 17th issue can learn about the doors and see photos.
The paper says, “For those tired of playing doorman to their dog, there is an answer – even for extra large breeds such as Great Dane, St. Bernard, Old English Sheepdog, Newfoundland, Irish Wolfhound, Rottweiler, and Grand Pyrenees.”
The article goes on with describing how the frames of PlexiDor dog doors and cat door are engineered using hardened aluminum that prevents bending, rusting, cracking, and warping.
Combining rugged and durable materials has resulted in a dog door that can take the pounding of large breeds that sometimes hit the door at a full run.
The Extra Large PlexiDor dog door weighs approximately 18 lbs and can be mounted in a standard household door, or through a wall. The doors come in three colors – silver, white, and bronze. Each door is equipped with a lock, key, and steel security plate.
There is still time to enter our fun dog food contest and win 1,000 lbs of dog food delivered to your door, or to a shelter/rescue of your choice. The contest has been featured on petproductnews.com!
The website tells readers about the contest, and emphasizes the easy entry. Just submit a photo of a dog using a pet door. It doesn’t have to be a PlexiDor dog door; it can be any pet door. PlexiDor dog doors and cat doors are becoming quite popular in Canada, because the door stand up to the harsh climate. The pet doors were recently featured in the Regina Leader-Post.
The article mentions how the PlexiDor pet doors feature saloon style doors that won’t require replacement of flaps, that the panels are energy efficient and shatter resistant, and that the doors are made for installation through a household door or a wall.
PlexiDor dog doors and cat door are constructed to provide safe and easy access for pets without the human having to get up and act as doorman. The doors have security features such as lock and key, and a steel security plate, and the electronic door can only be operated by pets with an RF-ID key.
PlexiDor Pet Doors were recently featured in an article in the London Free Press, mentioning how a multitude of items enable dog owners to offer their pets the best.
The article mentions that “we seem to finally have reached a point where we no longer have to justify a devotion to our pets” and continues with explaining how pet-friendly people nowadays don’t care how others feel about them and their pets.
“If Snoopy or Garfield were to go outside on their own, the options for pet doors were once very limited. You had the flap and you had the squeeze, but nothing that matched the quality of the windows and doors on the rest of your house.
Now pet door sizes range from kitten to pony and are made from durable products, warranted against failure. You can still buy the vinyl flap, but it’s hardly an option for a Canadian winter. These days doors are lockable, durable and claim to stand up to whatever the Great White North can throw at them.
Manufacturer Plexidor specializes in a shatter resistant saloon-style door with an aluminum frame that’s guaranteed to never warp, rust, bend or crack. If you have the budget and the desire to make Lassie the envy of the neighbourhood, Plexidor’s Electronic Door and Electronic Wall versions feature a programmable panel and other elements akin to a house security system. Concern about a possum or raccoon following your furry family member into the house are eliminated with these particular doors. Only the dog or cat that’s wearing a special pre-programmed collar key will gain access.”
PlexiDor Pet Doors recently visited the 2014 UKC Premiere show in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The UKC, or United Kennel Club, was founded in 1898 and is the largest all-breed performance dog registry in the world. UKC registers dogs from all 50 states as well as 25 other countries.
Many clubs only accept pure-bred dogs with pedigree, but UKC has an inclusive policy and strives to provide shows where all dogs can participate. There is a purebred dog registry, but also a program open to mixed breeds and purebreds who for some reason don’t fit into the regular purebred registry. They might have a “fault” that excludes them from the breed standard, or be of unknown pedigree.
PlexiDor pet doors go to the Premiere event every year and give away 10 dog doors as prizes. It’s a fun event for us, because previous years’ winners often come by to tell us their experiences with the doors. This year is noteworthy; it’s the first time the same dog has won two doors!
Congratulations to all the winners. We hope to see you at the show in 2015!
Late May, PlexiDor pet doors traveled to Interzoo in Nuremberg, Germany to show the dog doors and cat door.
Interzoo is the world’s largest trade fair for the international pet supplies industry and it only takes place every second year. Around 1,700 exhibitors from over 50 countries showed the latest products for pets.
The show started in 1950 when four member companies presented their new products on pasting tables during the annual conference of the German Pet Trade and Industry Association. This year’s show saw over 37,000 visitors from over 120 countries.
The next Interzoo exhibition will take place May 26-29 in 2016.
