It’s not possible to put an exact number on the dog breeds of the world, because many varieties might be recognized by one breed registration group, but not by another. The World Canine Organization is the largest internationally accepted registry of dog breeds, and they have 343 breeds at the moment.This page strives to give information on at least some of the dog breeds and corresponding pet doors. All 10 types of dogs hate flap doors, which is why the PlexiDor is different. What do we mean by 10 types of dogs?

Most Chinese Crested require a medium PlexiDor dog door, but small individuals can get by with a small PlexiDor dog door

The World Canine Organization divides dogs into ten groups, based on purpose, function, appearance, and size. Currently, the ten groups are:

  1. Sheepdogs and Cattle Dogs other than Swiss Cattle Dogs
  2. Pinscher and Schnauzer – Molossoid Breeds – Swiss Mountain and Cattle Dogs
  3. Terriers
  4. Dachshunds
  5. Spitz and Primitive Types
  6. Scenthounds and Related Breeds
  7. Pointing Dogs
  8. Retrievers – Flushing Dogs – Water Dogs
  9. Companion and Toy Dogs
  10. Sight hounds

Each group in turn is divided into subgroups of dog breeds, and each has been assigned a country or region of origin.

This isn’t necessarily the country where the dog breed first appeared; it is often the first nation to have recognized and registered the breed.
