I have had a Large Plexidor in constant use for 32 years. Over those years I have had 6 golden retrievers and labs who used it multiple times a day. I have replaced the springs and door panels twice in those 32 years. The product is very well engineered and constructed, and the customer service is outstanding. I would not use or recommend any other dog door. I have a new 9 week old Labrador Retriever–it took him only 1 day to learn to use the door. This makes house training a breeze!

After many years of using the type of dog doors with vinyl flaps that tore, were chewed or blew in the wind, we finally found Plexidoor – just the best ! We have Gordon Setters that come in and out all day- the door has held up really well, and it is quite good at keeping out the cold Maine winter air. The door is easy for the dogs, but strong enough to not blow in the wind which is a problem with those flap type doors. While this door was expensive compared to most, it is truly a superior product. The company is also very responsive and when we needed to make a small repair after years of use, the parts were sent quickly, and there was even an excellent detailed video on how to make the repair. We have used dog doors for decades. We had the type with vinyl flaps and spent an endless amount of time and money replacing those flaps. The flaps also did not insulate at all which is an issue in Maine. We searched for a different type of door and found Plexidoor. We installed it and have been very happy with it ever since. I have always had large dogs – Newfs, mutts, you name it, ten dogs in the last 27 years. After I bought a house and put in a fence, I thought how great it would be to have a doggie door! At that time, 27 YEARS AGO, I bought one from Plexi Door in Florida and had it shipped to Nova Scotia. I had that thing for so long, and sure, after these huge beasts pounded through it over the years, I had to change the springs every year or so, I got to know those springs so well! Anyway, 2023 and the 27 year old door could simply not be fixed anymore. I was directed to buy from Pet Stop in Calgary, they also helped me with finding a professional to install it. I got it installed last week and it is beautiful!!! I still have a box of parts that I will keep in case those springs go, but 27 years ago I do not think that we were instructed to lube them once a year (along with the pin hinges). I have no complaints, and the first one I got, well, I got my money’s worth. I would recommend these to everyone, and I will!!!

After almost 20 years of hard service I have just finished changing the springs in our Plexidor Dog Door. During those years it has been used by our usual family of two dogs and sometimes three. Not a difficult job, I clamped the door in a workmate, charged the springs and reinstalled. Often in Canada, where I live, it gets quite cold in the winter. The door panels with their weather stripping keep the cold out.

Not very impressed with the air sealing between panels. The door is very leaky, and I expected more for the premium price. You also have to pay extra for accessory to be able to use the security panel. All in all I wish I would have purchased another max seal pet door. Its half the price and seals tons better.

I wish I could attach photos. I’ve had English Bull Terriers for 30+ years and currently have 2 (rescued) bullys. These pups are “rambunctious” – to put it nicely. I’ve had Plexidors in each of my homes for the past 22 years and these doors are amazing. Yeah, they’re not cheap but when I had cheap doors my heat and AC bill went way up and those doors didn’t last (so, the cheap doors actually cost me a lot.) These Plexidors provide heat/cool retention, and… they’re Bull Terrier proof! I heard about these from a friend who had them for his Newfoundland and I’m in his debt for telling me about these. Thanks to these doors (and my fenced in yard) my dogs have complete freedom to go in and out as they wish. They tend to run full speed through these doors and hit them so hard you’d think the doors would break -nope! My current house and my Plexidors (I have two of them) have been in place for 6 going on 7 years and they’re still the greatest investment I could have made.

I can’t say enough good things about the Plexador product and their customer service. The door itself takes so much stress and worry out of my life, always knowing my dogs can get out when they need to. I have had a Plexidor dog door for at least the last 25 years. Most of those years were in Minnesota where insulation is key. A drafty dog door will just not work. The insulated door works well until it get below -10/-20. At that time, I put insulation between the locked door and metal cover that comes with the dog door. I have moved a couple times during the 25 years and one of the first things I do is install a Plexidor. I have had several Weimaraners who “hunt” thru the clear doors, they wait for a chipmunk to get close and wham they bang hard through the door. The door have always held up to that. I have only had to replace the weather stripping and once a spring. PlexiDor customer service was so responsive and sent me replacement parts for free! This is after I had the door for 10 years. And they always answer the next day, making sure any issue is resolved. I am completely sold on this product so appreciative of the freedom it give me and my dogs. Thank you!

Marcy, Thank you for the detailed feedback. We are glad the PlexiDor is living up to your expectations and the dogs’ needs! A note: We don’t recommend putting insulation between the dog door panels and the steel plate. This can cause the acrylic panels to warp. If you do want to add an insulation barrier, it is best to add that to the outside.

We have 3 large dogs. One hits those doors like a bullet, literally full speed. He’s catahoula/pit bull. We had a dog door but it had a light weight flap. When the wind blew it blew open. Saw the video of a snake going through but before we could replace it we had a repair man here so I put dogs outside and closed the dog door. I heard a crash and here comes the catahoula/pit and our other 2 dogs. The catahoula pit had the frame of dog door around his neck. Didn’t bother him he was in the house and the repair man completely froze. Dogs didn’t bother him but it would have scared me. Once they were locked up we immediately knew we needed something STRONGER. Our in-laws suggested the plexidor. I call it an investment. The catahoula pit is almost 10 and still hits it hard. When the spring broke I went into panic mode and ordered another door. They called and said we could just order the springs instead of the expense of a new door. What company does that.? They do. We went ahead and bought the door and they included extra springs to fix the other door at no charge. We will install the other door at our cabin.This door is the best thing we could have purchased for our pets. The cats have figured out how to use it as well. Thank goodness. I purchased the X-Large Door 13 years ago for my Danes. The door has taken abuse from my Danes as they run full speed through the door many times a day. This door had held up exceptionally well. It’s easy to clean and the quality is amazing. I’m also happy to support a business in the USA. Plexidor had amazing customer service and are always willing to help. These doors are amazing! Purchased my first in 1999. It was a through the door unit shared by a 90lb Rottweiler and a 40lb bully mix. They both became accustomed to the door right away. After taking in numerous rescue pups of all types and sizes we built a free standing, 3 run kennel with each having its own through the wall Plexidor. There were two dogs in each run and they would burst through those doors at full speed. It was pretty crazy how they did this but the doors held up and functioned perfectly. Relocated and built another kennel with 2 runs at this point. Again installed through the wall Plexidors. Since that home, have relocated three more times. Unfortunately at this point only two of the pups were still with us, so purchased and installed one door for each move. Guess that makes a total of 9. I would never even consider another brand based on their durability / performance. And to boot, the customer service is great! The most recent install was about a month ago. I met with a handyman (who turned out to be not so great) to do some work at the house before I moved in, including the dog door. When I did move I found the dog door install to be suitable but he had not installed the Slide In Track accessory (which I think is a must have). No problem I thought since its only four screws but once I started realized that 1/2 of the hardware was missing. I was through with that guy so didn’t bother asking what he had done with it. I called customer service and spoke with Deidre who was wonderful. She sent a full hardware set right out at no charge. Thank you Plexidor for wonderful products and support!

These are truly the best dog doors out there! Not to mention the excellent customer service! We have moved several times and we are about to purchase our 3rd and 4th dog doors for our next home. Just love these products! Our 160lb Mastiffs run at full speed in and out of them and they have held up for years! When one of the springs finally gave out after 4 years of use on the first one we purchased, the process of having a new one shipped and replacing it myself (not a handy person) was a breeze! Ten years ago, I purchased two (2) large doors and they have been terrific. Both were installed by my residential contractor (now retired.) The metal plate to fit over the doors is a bit of a pain but we handled it. Even ordered the sliding tracks but before we installed them, this month a spring broke. I ordered the spring replacements. Probably should have ordered completely new door because loading the spring has been a nightmare. Broken fingernails and beat up fingers. Repeatedly, watched the videos which make it look easy. It is not. I would have paid someone but your site shows Jacksonville, FL as nearest Dealer/Installer.

I just replaced the springs and weather stripping on our large PlexiDor. This door was purchased in 2003 and has lasted 18 year before having to replace springs. It has held up very well thru two Labs & now a new Cavapoo puppy. Now it looks like a new door again with new weather stripping & springs. These doors are far superior to flap doors we have had them both.

These are great high quality pet doors. We bought our first Plexidor more than twenty years ago. We always had German Shepherds, but now we have a Border Collie who runs through the doors so fast it bangs when he goes through. I have bought three Plexidors. I have one through the storm door onto our back porch, and one through the wooden back entrance door. I just bought a third Plexidor to install in a new storm door. Installing a Plexidor in a storm door takes a little adaptation because the storm doors are thinner. I used PVC brick mold to make a picture-frame like spacer to bring the total thickness up to what is required. I would like to see Plexidor partner with someone like Larson to market storm doors with Plexidors pre-installed.

We absolutely love the Plexi-dor! We have a daycare and boarding facility in Manitoba and this is by far the easiest door to teach the dogs to use. We have 5 doors all in XL. The 5lb all the way to the 150lb dog all go through them. They really love the clear glass feature. They can see if another dog is coming from the other direction. They are also very energy efficient. We are ordering a wall mount as we speak for a different location.

We had a medium Plexidor installed in a wooden exterior door way back in 2004. Fast forward through 17 years of flawless operation, and the weather stripping needed replacing, as did one door spring. It was easy to remove the 4 screws holding in the dog door frame, and the instructions to replace weather stripping and the springs were easy to follow. The Plexidor’s design and construction are both superlative: not only is the frame extremely solid, it was designed to make maintenance or replacement of routine wear parts (like the springs) very straightforward and simple, even for an average homeowner. Customer support is spectacular: I had to replace an exterior frame piece where water leakage damaged the machine screw underneath (not a Plexidor problem, just an error on my original install where the edges weren’t caulked properly on one side), and Sheri at the company could not have been nicer or better in helping me identify the part so she could make sure to send an exact replacement.
The Plexidor operates almost noiselessly, blocks cold air and rain, is extremely well designed and constructed, and comes with fantastic support. And our dogs love it!

We got our PlexiDor professionally installed about 2-3 years ago. Ours is a Large Door, supposedly for up to 100lb dogs. For perspective only, we have a 14 year old retriever/collie mix-breed and 2 other mix-breeds about the same size but less than a year old and all are rescues. None of them weights more than 70lbs. A few months ago I locked them all out as I usually do when the exterminator arrives for their round around the house. While upstairs I heard a loud bang and came to find all dogs inside and the right side of the door smashed in its upper left corner where it meets the locking metal plates. The door that has this PlexiDor installed is just after a long and steep staircase on a second level leading to a tiny back porch and at a 90 degree angle which, in my ignorance, shall greatly reduce any dynamic force. Point is, when you look at the crack in the door, it happens to be almost perfectly equidistant to the very corner where the locking plates are. Now, how is it possible that with a 25% dog weight margin of error further reduced by the steep upwards entry and the 90 degree turn required and this door couldn’t take it??? Please explain. I have pictures of the broken door if that will help…
Please don’t take me wrong: I like the concept, the looks and everything except the door breaking which totally defeats the purpose. One thing is for sure: I will find a way to add an aluminum plate to strengthen it, somehow…

Thank you for your comments. Sorry to hear your dog broke the panel on the Plexidor. The panels are made from a very rugged acrylic material that should withstand many powerful beatings. Normally a dog running and breaking the panels of a locked Plexidor is not covered by warranty. However, we have a policy to replace the panels one time against breakage or chewing However, we urge all of our customer to give their dogs a warning sign, like a ribbon Taped to the door or even simply lean our security cover up against the Plexidor. This shows the dog his door is locked. Even a better solution, purchase the Plexidor slide-in tracks.
The Plexidor slide-in track accessory allows you to let your dog know from a long distance away that the Plexidor is locked. With the slide-in tracks, you can easily keep your dog in at night or whenever you need to keep him from the outside. Hello everyone I purchased a large dor in 2013. My family and i have had 9 dogs the whole time using this VERY WELL made dor 24/7. It is worth every penny. And that being said I have replaced both dors. One in 2015 i believe and the other i just installed. I also just replaced both sets of springs. In my opinion thats a great dor considering the amount of HEAVY dog traffic this dor has had to put up with. At one point we had a lab/rottweiler mix that weighed 90pd at least and that dog would hit this dor at 100 miles an hour, and that is why i think the first door broke. There is NO WAY any flap door could stand up to that kind of abuse i know this for a fact ive had them and disliked every one of them. Also on a side note both times ive spoke with Plexidor folks they have been more than helpful and great to chat with. So to sum up you really do get what you pay for here a great Dor for your pets that will last as long as it costs!!

We have had our PlexiDor dog door for about 15 years…cannot say enough good things about it! We have had three jack russells put it through it’s paces at 100 miles per hour…and it has held up…..it is quiet as well….we had an energy audit a few years ago where they came and performed a vacuum test on all our windows, doors and even dog door – the dog door passed with flying colours, no leaks and no loss of heat…..we are in Canada with cold winters and no drafts at all…we love the door, it is worth every penny…..would highly recommend it to anyone looking for performance and endurance…

My only complaint is it would be nice to have a non-metal door to slide in solely to block entry/egress. When the security door is in place, it can be noisy when a dog tries to gain entry/egress. Also, the thin metal panel can be pushed out from the tracks by a dog;’s repeated pushes from the outside.

Mary Ellen We do have a ABS hand slide panel with rails for our Kennel Doors, but might not be what you are looking for
You best option would most likely be to go to a hardware store and get them to cut you a piece of acrylic that will fit in the tracks you have
This should give you a stronger seal then our steel plate. However the steel plate is still the best option for security when it is screwed into the frame

Disappointed that the sliders are not included for this price. The key feature is not all that strong and tends to slip roam different position as well. For such a high quality item, u should have the option to lock/and or slide in the added perfection.

TD Sounds like the lock need to be tightened down. there is a screw on the back of the cam, after screwing it down tight, you should no problems. Also the tracks are an item that we added about 6 years ago so people would have the option to slide the cover in
We do not include the tracks with the Plexidor because some customers will not use the tracks and prefer not to pay extra for the add on
In the 20 + years of the Plexidor’s history, many dog owners did not use the cover at all, or only when they went away for an extended period of time. For shorter periods, the locking panels provide the extra security they needed. So, when using the key lock for security all you need is a sign so the dogs do not run at a locked Plexidor. For example, a ribbon or a even he cover leaning on the Plexidor lets the dog know the door is locked and your house is secure.

We had one of these installed in a french door for our dogs. We have 6 that have access 24/7. I cannot even begin to count how many times a day that door opens and closes. It has been very solid and trouble free for the time we have had it. Two of our dogs will hit it full speed when they hear something outside. One day, one of the return springs broke. I contacted our installer who later informed me that Plexidor would be shipping the parts direct to me since it was still under warranty. I tried to explain that the door gets way more use than normal, but he insisted. Within 1 day, I received a call from Plexidor that parts were being shipped to me and I should have them within that same week. I received instructions with the parts kit, as well as a note to call if I had any issues whatsoever. They have instructional videos on a Youtube channel, which I followed. No trouble at all. This is a top notch product with the best customer service. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Plexidor product.

Love these doors! Ordered 5 of them for the new kennel building and they are exactly what I wanted. Almost no draft can be felt coming thru the doors so that helps keep the kennel at the correct temperature and saves on heating and AC costs. From my 130 pound mastiff to the 10 pound cat and all those in between, I have had zero issues with animals using the doors. On 11/24/04 we purchased a small Plexidor cafe style pet door for our cats from Pet Doors USA. It’s one of the best purchases we have ever made. Our cats would not use our previous ‘rub the top of your back’ top flapper door. They love using the Plexidor. They fly through it so fast that in our cold St. Louis winters hardly any warm air escapes. It seals great too. It is also very quiet-just a soft gentle woosh.
After 14 years and literally millions of times being used by our multiple cats the door’s weather seal started to wear a bit. I called customer service on 9/07/18 expecting to be told service parts are no longer available and that we would have to buy a whole new door. To my amazement a replacement seal was still available and at a very reasonable price. Then they walked me through step-by-step how to install the part. To top it off our original door order was still in their system, making this little part order quick and easy. You couldn’t ask for better customer service and support 14 years after the original purchase. I can say first hand that Pet Doors USA really does stand behind their products and customers.

I have had the Large Plexidor for over 20 years for my Siberian Huskies. It is a great door. Once the dogs get used to the door, they tend to go through at a very high speed; the door stands up to it so well. The door is also the best weatherproofed door or window in my house! I have witnessed it withstand high winds.

We bought this door mainly because of the windy cold winters around here. We ‘had’ the flap type door (basically two flaps instead of one) for extreme weather. It sometimes sealed on the moderatly windy days. After we got the PlexiDoor, even on very windy days, the doors stayed shut, and my basement didn’t feel like an icebox anymore!! We have three large Golden Retrievers (100lb) and the Large PlexiDoor is perfect. It took about an hour to train the dogs to go through the new door. We have had this door for about 2 years now and it has held up like it was new.

I live in Alaska and our winters are pretty chilly. This door is awesome. It’s easy to install and that’s even for me (who doesn’t really “do” tools). My dogs quickly learned to use it and it works really well, even in subzero temps. It’s also bear country and I’ve had both black and brown bears come to the door and look in, but because I can lock and secure this door I’ve never had someone in the house I did not invite. I highly recommend this door to anyone who lives in an area where you need a reliable, durable, well insulated, heavy duty door and I’m very pleased with mine. LOVE THESE DOORS! Have had ours for more than 8 years with two large dogs going in and out at will and with great ease. They perform perfectly! We purchased the Large size door for our 34 pound Beagle this past January. It took 3-4 days for him to finally start using it (encouraged by some treats) and he took to it nicely after that. The door was installed in our kitchen door which goes out to a screened-in porch. We had this door installed into a ProVia metal door which we purchased. ProVia installed it for us. The door is sturdy and I’ve not detected any leakage of cold air into our home. The plexiglass panels are easy to clean.
My only regret is that I wish we had gotten this earlier. It is worth every single penny as our dog gets up in the middle of the night to go outside and we no longer have to get up with him. We are all sleeping better now.

We live on Prince Edward Island, a Province on the east coast of Canada. We installed the plexidoor for our lab/collie mix in October. We were hoping this door would be able to stand up to a harsh Canadian winter…..it was fantastic. We were very pleased with this product. We did install another door from a different company before the plexidoor and it was not able to offer a barrier against the wind. We would recommend plexidoor to anyone considering installing a pet door.

We have two Newfoundlands over 180 lbs so the extra large we are choice. Great doors, would have bought the security slide units because we are gone for extended time in course of the year. Life saver for me my days at work 17 hours at times. Love the security features too. Moved into rental and bought a patio door dog door panel and it’s just okay. Makes me appreciate the quiet operation of plexidoor. Best door on market you will love it. So will your pets!! Will buy one again

Absolutely essential and arctic proof part of my home. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I have the large sized one and two dogs (an 85 lbs Lab mix and a 16 lbs terrier that I swear is one half coyote, one half bunny rabbit), both use this door all the time. Easy to train to use and very functional item, I highly recommend it to anyone with active dogs.
I love that I can lock it in the Spring when the bears come out because it gives me the peace of mind of never waking up to a bear in my garage. The dogs love it because they can largely come and go as they please. It seals well keeping the cold out and the warmth in, but opens easy enough that my terrier can check to see if its open with her little paw. Only took them running into it headlong once, for both to learn to check first, but I cannot say enough good things about this pet door.
And while my friends who wolf whistled at the $350 price tag are on their third set of flaps, mine still looks and works like its brand new. I like it so much I am considering another to put on an interior door so they can have full access when I’m home and let themselves out whenever they like. I love it.

What a quality door! It is so quiet and sturdy-and in our cold state of Nebraska, there is not a draft that comes through at all in the lengths of time we have the door opened for their access. It has been several weeks since we installed your “best pet door” and believe me, it is the best thing we ever did for our dogs. I have 2 shar-pei, about 60 pounds each, and purchased the large door. They go in and out all day, no more accidents in the house, and they are extremely happy. So am I. It is a great door, draft free, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who is out of the house for long periods of time.

Just wanted to let you know we have installed our XL plexidor. It wasn’t hard as we thought it would be-we didn’t even take the door of the hinges to do it! It’s working great. It’s much quieter than our old door and much better at keeping the cold air out. It is definitely worth the investment, and we are very happy with it
