The average Shetland Sheepdog weighs between 14 and 27 pounds, and the medium PlexiDor will be the right size dog door. This pet door is constructed for dogs up to 40 pounds.
The PlexiDor is available with a white, silver, or bronze frame and will look great in any environment. Many dogs – including Shelties – appreciate the see-through panels; the door serves as a window for the dogs.
To make sure you’re getting the right size door, cut out the opening in a piece of cardboard. The opening size is opening is 9″ x 12″ and the door is normally mounted 4″-6″ off the floor. Many think the opening looks small, but remember, the dog will lift their feet and duck their head as they go through. The top of the opening should be just above the dog’s back.
Other breeds that commonly use the medium door size include Beagles, Welsh Corgis, Pekingese, Cocker Spaniels, Dachshunds, and many Terriers.
