Q: Why does my cat's mouth smell bad?

A: If your cat's mouth smells bad, you should take them to the vet. A healthy feline mouth doesn't stink. Dental diseases are the most common cause of a cat's mouth smelling bad. Cats can get plaque and tartar just like humans, and they may need to have teeth cleaned or removed. Gingivitis - inflammation of the gums - and stomatitis - inflammation of membranes in the mouth - are painful. If you notice your cat drooling excessively and having problems eating, contact your vet. Other diseases can also cause foul breath: Kidney disease can lead to breath that smells like ammonia or urine Diabetes can cause a sweet smell, or one like aceton Liver disease or an intestinal blockage can give a breath that smells like feces The sooner your cat is treated, the better.

Q: Does the PlexiDor have a lifetime warranty?

A: PlexiDor pet doors manufactured prior to November 2017 have a five-year warranty. PlexiDors manufactured from November 2017 and forward have a ten-year warranty.

Q: If a neighbor's dog follows my dog inside, will the PlexiDor Electronic allow them to leave?

A: The PlexiDor Electronic only activates and opens when a collar key is present. The panel will be down and locked until activated by a key. That means that if a dog or cat follows your pet inside through the door, they will not be able to go back out until your pet opens the door with the RFID chip on their collar key.

Q: Can You Install a PlexiDor in a Sunroom?

A: Can You Install a PlexiDor Dog Door in a Sunroom? Specific Situation: The sunroom wall is 3 1/2 inches thick.  Do I buy the PlexiDor Wall Unit dog door or the PlexiDor Door Unit model? Answer: The sunroom wall is too narrow for the standard PlexiDor Wall Series unit and too wide for the standard PlexiDor Door Series unit kit. However, people have purchased the PlexiDor to have a dog door in a sunroom for years without a special trim kit. The recommendation is to buy the PlexiDor Door Unit and have the sunroom company, or installer, frame out the hole for the dog door just like they would for a window.  They will then use a U-shaped trim around the exposed wall openings. Then they simply screw the PlexiDor to that trimmed opening.   Dog Door in a Sunroom Solution Sunroom, solarium, Florida room, Arizona room, and patio enclosure all refer to the same basic structure. It is a part inside, part outside additional room on your house usually located off the backdoor. It is designed to enjoy the outdoors without the outdoor inconveniences like undue heat and/or bugs. As sunrooms are typically located off the back of a home, they render installed doggie doors useless. This creates the need for a dog door in a sunroom. Sunrooms don’t always have doors into the backyard themselves and those that do may have doors inappropriate for dog door installation. Some door styles are not thick enough for a dog door. Storm doors and screen doors will not support a dog door and will need to be installed through the wall of the sunroom. Depending on your specific sunroom construction will determine the proper PlexiDor Dog Door to use and the proper installation method. Q: How Do I Keep My Puppy From Chewing on the Weather Seal?

A: Can I keep puppy from chewing on the Weather Seal of our PlexiDor Dog Door? There is a product called Bitter Apple Cream that is used to stop pets from chewing on furniture. It can be used on the weather seal as well. Some customers tell us it doesn't work for them. We have had several customers email us and tell us that cayenne pepper brushed on the weather seal with a damp towel seems to do the trick. You have to reapply it every couple of days. Eventually the puppies will stop chewing on the weather seal and then you can stop. Have questions on a PlexiDor Dog Door - Click Here Shop PlexiDor Dog Doors Here

Q: Are your dog doors hurricane rated?

A: Do You Have a Hurricane Rated Dog Door? Hurricanes are a fact of life in the American Southeast and along the East Coast; especially in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, the Carolinas and further North. Hurricanes are becoming more and more prevalent in the Northeast as well. A hurricane rated dog door is of importance to those that live in these regions. It is important to check the hurricane rating of a dog door before purchasing if you live in an area regularly affected by hurricanes. What makes a hurricane rated dog door? To make a hurricane rated dog door, you install a removable hurricane shutter over the dog door on the exterior.  Hurricane shutters are made in all kinds of custom sizes.  The hurricane shutter has been tested to be hurricane rated and stand up to the winds of a hurricane from 74 miles per hour on the low end and up to 156 miles per hour or more. This would make the dog door hurricane rated. If you expect extreme weather, lock your PlexiDor Dog Door and attach the security plate. While the PlexiDor panels are designed to open at a gentle touch, the springs can keep them closed at wind speeds up to 30 miles per hour. If you expect any type of extreme weather with winds stronger than this, your pets shouldn't be unsupervised outside. Securing the door is the best for both your home and your pets. Include your pets in your emergency plans and never leave them alone behind - they depend on you. The CDC has emergency planning lists for cats and dogs. https://www.cdc.gov/healthypets/resources/disaster-prep-pet-emergency-checklist.pdf While the PlexiDor Dog Door does not come with an exterior hurricane shutter, there is an included security plate that provides additional protection from the elements in case of extreme weather. This security plate secures over the dog door on the interior of the house. In the case of wind speeds above 30 miles per hour it is recommended to secure your dog door with plywood or some other reinforcement. In summation, the PlexiDor Dog Door does not qualify as a hurricane rated dog door due to the lack of an external cover. However, it will keep the weather out in winds up to 30 miles per hour. Q: The PlexiDor cat door looks so small. Can my cat really get through?

A: The PlexiDor Cat Door The small PlexiDor is intended for cats up to 24 pounds and dogs up to 9 pounds. It does look small from a human point of view, but cats have no issues using it. Most cats enjoy small spaces and feel safe in narrow passages. The weight limit for cats is higher than the one for dogs, because they're built differently. Cats also move differently than dogs. Thus, a 24 pound dog requires a lot more space than a 24 pound cat. If you're concerned about the opening size, cut a hole that is 6 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches in a piece of cardboard, and see if your pet can get through. The PlexiDor cat door is available for installation through a house door or wall, or with a glass kit. This door has a single pane design instead of the saloon style doors found on the larger models, but the pane is made from the same sturdy K9 Glass as the larger doors, and lined with the same industrial weather seal as the larger doors. The frame is made from the same sturdy aluminum as the bigger doors, and available in white, bronze, or brushed aluminum. The small PlexiDor does not come with a security plate - the opening is too small for anyone to get through. It also has a different type of locks than the larger models. Instead of having a lock and a key, it can be set to open, locked, or open in one direction only. That is, you can allow your pets to come in, but not go out again, or the other way around.

Q: Is the PlexiDor really quiet enough for bedroom or nighttime use?

A: Yes. Many customers install PlexiDors near sleeping areas due to their quiet operation. The panels swing shut softly, unlike the click or slam of vinyl flaps with magnets.

Q: How easy is it for small dogs or puppies to push open the panels?

A: Most puppies and small dogs can use PlexiDors easily. Some very timid or under-15 lb dogs may need encouragement, or the use of a slightly smaller size.

Q: Can I install a PlexiDor into an existing glass French door or sliding door?

A: Yes. PlexiDor offers French door glass insert units any handyman can install. For sliding glass doors, a glass professional provides custom measurements and PlexiDor builds a pre-installed insert.
