PlexiDor Dog Door Stud Wall Install No Intro Basic
- 00:00:00:00 - 00:00:26:22 Unknown Hello and welcome to the wall installation section of our video. And before we get started, I want to go over some general things you have to watch on every wall installation. First thing is, we have to watch out for plumbing and electrical. So you should walk around the job area. Make sure you don't have any electrical outlets on the outside.
- 00:00:27:00 - 00:00:40:18 Unknown Make sure you don't have any hose bibs on the outside. Also, can go in the basement and look to see if there's wires going up. If there's plumbing up in the air, you want to go. We also have we'll call it eight rule stairway eight inches to the left of doors eight inches to the right of the doors.
- 00:00:40:18 - 00:00:59:23 Unknown Stay away from four corners of the house. Also stay away. Eight inches to the left of windows. Eight inches to the right of the windows. Those areas and concrete block are filled with concrete and metal rebar and studs. Walls are filled with studs and jack studs, as are all load bearing areas and carrying the area above the window.
- 00:01:00:01 - 00:01:19:04 Unknown It is okay to put pen doors below windows. This is not carrying anything. All the weight is carried by a header and the medium and small is going to start 4 to 8in off the ground, roughly depending on the size of the animal largest in an area like this. And we would probably start those between 8 and 12in off the ground.
- 00:01:19:06 - 00:01:24:01 Unknown And that would be for your larger animals.
- 00:01:24:03 - 00:01:40:00 Unknown Going through a studded wall need some basic tools, plus a drill skill saw, drywall saw in various levels, plus miscellaneous hand tools.
- 00:01:40:02 - 00:02:09:07 Unknown The first thing we're gonna do is locate a stud. And in this example, we're going to install a medium door, which will line up with a stud on one side and on the other side of the door. We're going to have to put the framing in, and we're doing some marking on the inside. The first thing we'll do is mark a area we want to mark off an area that's six by six inches.
- 00:02:09:09 - 00:02:30:01 Unknown This area here, that's six by six inches. It can remove it and see what's in there. We carry on our truck little pieces of drywall ready to go. They're six by six with extended paper to cover it up. If we have to take a look inside. No plumbing, no electrical. If there is, is this handy patch, cover up the area.
- 00:02:30:03 - 00:02:39:15 Unknown Everything's okay here. So we're going to complete removing the drywall on the inside.
- 00:02:39:17 - 00:02:50:02 Unknown They're going to tape off the area because we want to keep all the cutting dust to the outside of the house.
- 00:02:50:04 - 00:03:00:22 Unknown Now we've moved to the outside of the house. We're checking the area. We're going to draw out our lines, make sure everything's level and plumb.
- 00:03:01:00 - 00:03:24:01 Unknown If the wall is uneven, such as siding or a stuck or something like that, there's materials we can use to cover that up. I cut the hole with a pocket cut. Do it all your corners. Remember, the inside's taped off, so we're not throwing debris inside the house. This. Also, we have the blue tape to keep from scratching the exterior surface from the shoe with the saw.
- 00:03:24:03 - 00:03:30:08 Unknown And on the left, there you can see the one stud we're going to use.
- 00:03:30:10 - 00:03:45:17 Unknown A fit to go back to the inside of the house and fit the plexi door in there. Make sure everything's okay. Mark our mounting holes.
- 00:03:45:19 - 00:03:59:00 Unknown And here on the right, you can see we're right next to the stud. The mounting holes are going to go in there. It'll hold it in place.
- 00:03:59:02 - 00:04:15:17 Unknown On the other side, we're going to frame it out with this two by six. If you're a local areas two by fours you can use that. We're dropping this two by six all the way down to the floor. We've put some screws in there for handles so we don't be touching this super glue that we put on. This is liquid.
- 00:04:15:17 - 00:04:22:19 PlexiDor Guide Now.
- 00:04:22:21 - 00:04:40:23 PlexiDor Guide Slide or two by six in there. It's going to be a little snug. So here's a hammer to finish tapping in place. And it fits in this perfect.
- 00:04:41:01 - 00:05:04:20 PlexiDor Guide Again this is a medium which is a little bit narrower than studs. And that's why we have to frame out one side of the opening. And once that liquid nail sets up this is not going to go anywhere. Notice we don't need a framing in the top and the bottom because the tunnel kit will handle that. Here we have the rivets which hold the security plate, and we have to drill a clear space for that in the drywall on the inside of the house.
- 00:05:04:22 - 00:05:19:03 PlexiDor Guide So we mark those locations, drill through halfway, maybe an inch, inch and a half.
- 00:05:19:05 - 00:05:40:13 PlexiDor Guide Now the door will slide in there, lay flat against the wall inside, and have a nice clean look for the homeowner in the inside. Done by a professional. Nice all the way around. That's the smooth rear. Screw this door in place so it's held in place. Well, we're lining up all the exterior trim. Your field conditions are going to give you a different situation.
- 00:05:40:13 - 00:06:00:23 PlexiDor Guide Sometimes the top might rise a little bit flat. Go down a little bit. That's okay because we're putting the whole in place and we're going to make it fit. Those feel conditions here. We're going to drill two screw holes through the exterior frame, and we know that's going to hit material and materials. Different kind of go through blocks brick studs.
- 00:06:01:01 - 00:06:14:00 PlexiDor Guide But we just screw on the left or screw on the right. Notice that the hole drops two inches on the bottom. It's just keep any water and rain going to the outside.
- 00:06:14:02 - 00:06:39:15 PlexiDor Guide The center's left and right, so it shouldn't be any problem there. But one screw on the right, one screw on the left. We don't need to put a lot of screws in here, because by the time we get all done, when they post, free is holding everything in place.
- 00:06:39:17 - 00:06:52:16 PlexiDor Guide When you put it in these set, screws don't overdrive. You can bend the frame, just snug them up.
- 00:06:52:17 - 00:07:11:05 PlexiDor Guide Once we finish the sides, we can move on to the tops and bottoms. Again. You're going to see the bottom how it slopes down about two inches. But because we mark this in the field there's no problem. Also notice on this bottom piece we shove it all the way against the face of the inside of the plex door, not just up to the edge.
- 00:07:11:07 - 00:07:24:03 PlexiDor Guide The top piece gets slid up right to the edge, and this doesn't any wall, no matter what the thickness it is, what's.
- 00:07:24:05 - 00:07:39:17 PlexiDor Guide Every one of our kits comes with a brand new aluminum jigsaw blade, Swiss made to make that edge nice and clean so it's smooth. You can use a little sandpaper, aluminum if you have to.
- 00:07:39:19 - 00:07:58:08 PlexiDor Guide Notice when we cut it we cut on the outside surface. So that little scratching up here on the side, the customer will see. Can't get it. One touch off the edge a little bit more sandpaper.
- 00:07:58:10 - 00:08:13:10 PlexiDor Guide And it fits right in place. We're going to tack this in with one screw on the left and one screw on the right. Again, there'll be numerous screws in it by the time we're all done, but all matches up nicely.
- 00:08:13:12 - 00:08:23:20 PlexiDor Guide And the bottom piece, because it was measured on site, is exactly the angle you need for your installation.
- 00:08:23:22 - 00:08:39:15 PlexiDor Guide Again, when you drive these screws, don't overtighten them and torque the material.
- 00:08:39:17 - 00:08:56:21 PlexiDor Guide Once we have the top and bottom on, well, then I'm going to proceed on and measure for the sides. The side. We'll be able to slide all the way up against the face of the interior pet door.
- 00:08:56:23 - 00:09:02:19 PlexiDor Guide All right.
- 00:09:02:21 - 00:09:24:17 PlexiDor Guide Just leave it up. Put one set screw in there. We're getting, this is a small wall frame, which is actually the hardest to work with because of the space. You either have to drill in at 45 degree angles, both driving your screws and setting it. Or you have to get a 90 degree small drill that fits in there, Mark side pieces on the spot, cut those again, cutting the back side.
- 00:09:24:17 - 00:09:44:10 PlexiDor Guide So many scratches don't appear where the customer can see them. Sand the edges and we mark them and put them in place. Here. One grinder today. I'll just put it right there. When you get.
- 00:09:44:12 - 00:10:11:01 PlexiDor Guide For the finishing screws we're using a pan head screw. Just all finish there. Go on the side here. And the only screws the customer's going to see is one, two three, four. Because this plate covers up all the other screws.
- 00:10:11:03 - 00:10:32:16 PlexiDor Guide You live in the north or in Canada. You can put some great stuff. Window and door sealer there that'll seal up any of these cracks. It's awesome stuff. We recommend the door and window one just compared to the regular great stuff. You can fill this area all up. It'll also keep condensation from forming.
- 00:10:32:18 - 00:10:44:21 PlexiDor Guide The finished install I lock it both doors, make sure they swing both directions all the way. All right. Looks good.
- 00:10:44:22 - 00:11:01:17 PlexiDor Guide If you have an uneven wall, you can always use great stuff. Not the window door, but the regular great stuff. Tape off the wall, tape off the frame and it will fill gaps of a gap at the top. It hits, but it goes down, and on the bottom you have a half inch gap. You spray that great stuff in there, let it sit.
- 00:11:01:19 - 00:11:20:00 PlexiDor Guide Then you can use a razor knife to cut it off. You just need to tape off the two surfaces so it doesn't stick to it. And after you've done this taping here now there's no unevenness on this example, but you would spray it right in there, you know, fill any of those gaps. some homeowners want to go through a one and 3/8 garage door.
- 00:11:20:04 - 00:11:45:02 PlexiDor Guide This will take the one and 3/8 add this 3/8 will bring out the one and three quarters. You can find this home improvement section by garage doors. And what we do is we actually just cut off that fin. And now we have a nice piece. It's paintable. It's white. If the doors white bugs won't eat it. And you have a nice finished look on your garage doors with the pet door installed on top of that.
- 00:11:45:04 - 00:12:02:01 PlexiDor Guide If you live in area that has a lot of brick veneer, you need the 14 inch diamond blade saws with the gas power because it has to go all the way through those four six inch bricks and through the plywood that's on the backside of that. This is a tool you need. Makes the job easy. Just depends on the area you live in.
- 00:12:02:01 - 00:12:08:05 PlexiDor Guide In the country.
