Alaskan Malamute

The Alaskan Malamute is the largest and the oldest of the Arctic sled dogs. They have a quiet and dignified temperament, and are known for their loyalty to their owners. Today many live as family pets, but they were originally bred to carry large loads over long distances. Average height is 23-25 inches, and average weight 75-85 lbs, making a Large PlexiDor dog door perfect in most cases. Some individuals can be very large, well over 100 lbs, and would need an Extra large dog door.

This is an athletic breed that loves activity, such as sledding, weight-pulling, back-packing, jogging, and swimming.

The Alaskan Malamute known for its power and endurance. They are brown eyed, heavy, and known for being affectionate and friendly. They can be stubborn, but they are also intelligent and learn quickly.

Malamutes have a double coat, and the undercoat can be up to two inches long, protecting from cold, snow, and harsh weather.
