Newfoundlands
The Newfoundland is a Canadian dog breed known for their giant size, calm disposition, tremendous strength, and loyalty. They were originally used as working dogs for fishermen and they excel at water rescue. Some males weigh over 200 lbs and this breed definitely requires an Extra Large PlexiDor dog door. For very large individuals it is wise to measure the pet to make sure they can use even an Extra Large door.
These “Gentle Giants” have great lung capacity and are able to swim long distances. They are strong enough to handle powerful tides and rough ocean waves, and they are large enough to be able to bring drowning people ashore. They also make splendid family dogs.
Newfoundlands are sweet, loving, intelligent, and easily trained. They do require daily exercise and regular brushing.
